Recessed LED Spotlights: The answer to ceiling lighting

Solve your doubts and know the entire catalog of recessed spotlights or LED downlights

We can talk about recessed LED spotlights, Led Downlights or, directly, indoor LED spotlights. The three names refer to the same product, which currently boasts of being one of the most in demand within the LED lighting segment. They are luminaires with their own characteristics, among which their clean and minimalist design stands out, two concepts very present in the most current lines of interior design.

Talk about LED downlights

  • A lighting alternative that is not necessarily limited to the domestic environment. Its versatility also allows it to have a more industrial utility.
  • These LED spotlights, as their name reveals, are installed recessed. Generally in false ceilings.
  • They adjust to the specific needs of each user: it is possible to find options of different sizes, powers and designs in commercial catalogs.
  • They can be found in three possible target types.
  • It stands out, as is the case with all LED lighting options, for having the ability to save up to 70% of the energy expenditure generated in a home. Compared to a 35W halogen bulb, it can save more than €100.

Ceiling spotlights: for the use you want

Simplicity is one of the basic characteristics of these luminaires, but the absence of technical complexity does not prevent it from delivering what it promises. The installation of recessed LED spotlights is very simple for the user, and can be done in any room of a house. However, for the installation to really make sense and fulfill the desired functions, the uses of the specific room must be very clear, since the choice of lighting for a living room will never be the same as for a bathroom or a kitchen, for example.

Technical details that affect the installation

Choosing this option involves taking into account several aspects, both functional and installation. For example, the user must be aware that the light flow is directed directly to the surface to be illuminated. Furthermore, the fact that they can be recessed into the ceiling implies a technical nuance of capital importance: the hole that must be created in the ceiling has to be precise for the installation to be completed successfully. It is recommended, therefore, to have the appropriate drill bit or a hole saw, always keeping in mind the diameter of the focus. Nor can we forget that…

  • The minimum separation between recessed LED spotlights should be at least 80 cm from each other. This way you avoid both the formation of shadows and the creation of unnecessarily over-lit areas.
  • Calculations on domestic lighting indicate the number of bulbs based on the surface area. For example, in a 24m2 living room, about 12 LED downlights would be needed.
  • The separation distance between the ceiling and the double roof must be clear, to be able to insert the spotlight between them without problem. For standard sizes, the height of the false ceiling can range from 10 to 20 cm. In the case of extra-flat models, this distance can be reduced to just 5 cm.

Different ranges

Although when talking about LED lighting the concept of watts is no longer so important, some data in this regard should be highlighted. An example: the available powers of recessed LED spotlights range from 3W to 24W. Regarding the aesthetic aspect, a user can find circular or rectangular spotlights at their disposal, with a very compact configuration and shallow depth. However, the size of downlights always increases depending on the increase in light output. Its versatility can also be seen in this area: some models have the option of being able to regulate the light intensity by installing an adjustable driver (known as dimable) to replace the one that comes by default. Installed using the so-called "metal claws" you should not fear anything in terms of installation: they are firmly fixed to the ceiling. Thanks to this type of configuration, recessed ceiling spotlights enjoy great heat dissipation, a fundamental factor in the hours of useful life that a spotlight can achieve: up to 30,000 hours, which implies about 30 years of life with an average ignition of three hours a day.
