Correctly choosing the lighting for any room in a house is key, but even more so if that room is capable of influencing, for example, a person's mood. The perfect example is the living room, whose lighting should be carefully determined.

Keys to illuminate the living room

Before deciding what type of luminaires are desired or the quantity that will be needed, it is necessary to reflect on the use of the room. In standard-sized homes, it is common to find a living-dining room, so that in the same room you can do several things: rest, watch TV, eat or even work. It is these uses and the different differentiated areas that will determine the final lighting. Four initial tips to keep in mind before making decisions:

  • It will almost always be necessary to establish a general lighting point. From there, additional light points are established according to personal needs or the usefulness of each corner.
  • The living room normally requires about 100 LUX.
  • The natural light it receives is important but the time of day when it stops receiving it is even more important.
  • Of course, in addition to the purposes, you must also take into account the dimensions of the room.

LED ceiling lights, a general lighting option

Surely you remember a living room from the 90s: they did not have the information that we have now, but even without it they used more than one light point, in addition to the main one. These additional points are what, in the end, determine the atmosphere you want to create. However, it is worth remembering that in the field of lighting, less can be more: two well-placed single light points can be better than four or five installed without criteria. When you already know the uses of the living room, the first thing is to install the aforementioned main light point. There are many alternatives to do so, but LED ceiling lights have become one of the favorites, according to a study by the Spanish Association of Lighting Manufacturers. Due to their light power and ability to illuminate an angle of 180 degrees, they are perfect to fulfill this task. Space also counts in their favor: they illuminate as much as a traditional lamp, but occupying less surface area. In addition, LED ceiling lights are a perfect option for a plaster ceiling, since they do not need holes and all the wiring goes unnoticed.

Do you need additional lighting points in the living room?

Depending on the layout and decoration, there may be more or fewer additional areas to illuminate. But the sofa, dining table and TV area are surely common to the vast majority of homes. LED ceiling downlights are another very versatile alternative, but more adapted to this purpose. Because? Because they are smaller spotlights, easy to install, that concentrate their lighting power (quite effectively) in specific points and corners. They are specially designed so that they can be turned on and off constantly, depending on the needs of each room environment. More reasons to use LED ceiling spotlights as additional lighting points:

  • They provide a clean and minimalist design.
  • They are usually adjustable to direct them to the exact area to illuminate.
  • It is possible to select a more or less open lighting angle.

If you have a living-dining room…

Light points can be installed wherever a user wants, but there are two areas in which it is always worth doing so: the sofa and the dining room table. Here we usually opt for lights that, in addition to complementing, are a fantastic decorative option. In fact, as decorative options they are not exempt from the rigors of the trends that govern at all times. By creating different areas, you can combine various decorative styles that accept both modern options and, for example, vintage ceiling lamps, especially suitable for placing about 70-75 cm from the dining table so that you have direct lighting on this point.
