Differentials and Protections

RCDs and circuit protection devices are the guardians of any electrical installation: they cut the power when there's an overload, a short circuit or an earth leakage, protecting both people and connected equipment. At GreenIce we bring together miniature circuit breakers and RCDs from well-known manufacturers so you can complete your consumer units in the same order as your lighting.

Which circuit protection devices you'll find

Miniature circuit breakers (MCBs)

They protect each circuit against overloads and short circuits. Our catalog includes Legrand Rx³ series MCBs in 1P+N format at 230 V, rated 16, 20 and 32 A with type C curve, as well as single-pole 16 and 20 A models from Solera and Revalco with 6 kA breaking capacity, designed for residential and commercial use.

Residual current devices (RCDs)

They detect earth leakage currents and disconnect the circuit in milliseconds, preventing the risk of electric shock. We carry a 2-pole, 40 A Legrand RCD with 30 mA sensitivity, the usual sensitivity in residential installations.

Uses and applications

  • Homes: upgrading the main consumer unit, adding circuits for the kitchen, air conditioning or new lighting lines.
  • Shops and offices: separating lighting, socket and equipment circuits.
  • LED lighting projects: protecting floodlight lines, outdoor lighting or industrial fixtures.
  • New installations: dedicated circuits for EV chargers or solar PV systems, always sized as specified by the installer.

How to choose RCDs and circuit protection

Rated current (A)

The MCB rating must match the cross-section of the cable it protects: for example, 16 A is common on lighting circuits and 20 or 25 A on socket circuits, according to regulations.

Tripping curve

Type C is the most widely used curve in homes and shops, because it tolerates the inrush currents of equipment such as LED drivers or small motors without nuisance tripping.

Number of poles

Single-phase installations usually use 1P+N or 2P devices; three-phase installations use 3- or 4-pole devices.

RCD sensitivity

30 mA is the standard sensitivity for protecting people. Higher values are reserved for specific uses.

Breaking capacity

This indicates the short-circuit current the device can safely interrupt; 6 kA is a common value in residential and commercial settings.

Remember that work on consumer units must be carried out by a licensed electrician. Complete your installation with our installation materials and LED components and our switches and dimmers. At GreenIce you get fast shipping, the manufacturer's official warranty and technical advice for any questions.
