Switches and Pushbuttons

Switches and push buttons are your everyday point of contact with your installation: they let you turn the lighting in each room on, off or control it. At GreenIce you'll find wiring devices from well-known electrical brands such as Simon to complete your LED lighting projects with a clean, safe finish.

Types of switches and push buttons

Although they look alike at first glance, each device has a different function:

  • One-way switch: opens or closes a circuit from a single point. It's the most common device for switching on a lamp or a group of lights. Our catalog includes, for example, the Simon 77 10AX one-way switch.
  • Two-way switch: lets you control the same light from two different points, ideal for hallways, stairs or bedrooms.
  • Intermediate switch: combined with two two-way switches to control a light from three or more points.
  • Push button: closes the circuit only while you hold it down. It's used with doorbells, stairwell timers, latching relays and some dimmers.

In this section you'll also find complementary devices such as RJ45 data outlets for network installations.

Uses and applications

  • Homes: controlling the lighting in living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Offices and shops: zoned switching and control of groups of fixtures.
  • Common areas: push buttons for stairwell and entrance hall timers.

If you want to automate switching, combine your devices with presence and motion detection solutions or home automation products.

How to choose a switch or push button

Function

Decide whether you need to switch from one point (one-way switch), from two (two-way switch) or trigger an automated system (push button).

Rated current

10A or 10AX devices are the norm for domestic lighting circuits. The AX marking indicates that the device is designed for loads with inrush currents, such as LED power supplies and drivers.

Series and compatibility

Each manufacturer has series with their own frames and rockers. Make sure the device, rocker and frame belong to the same series so they fit together properly.

Mounting

Check whether you need a device for a standard flush-mounted back box or a surface-mounted version, and whether the room requires IP protection against moisture.

LED compatibility

If you want to dim the lights, you'll need a specific dimmer compatible with your fixtures; see our switches and dimmers section.

Third-party devices come with the manufacturer's official warranty. At GreenIce we offer fast shipping and technical advice to help you choose the right device for your installation.
