Electric cables

Electrical cables are the foundation of any installation, from wiring a lamp to rewiring an entire home or commercial space. At GreenIce you'll find cable by the meter, on drums and in coils from well-known brands, so you can buy exactly the amount you need.

Types of electrical cables available

H05VV-F flexible cords

White PVC-sheathed flexible cords in cross-sections of 2x0.50, 2x1, 2x1.5 and 3x1.5 mm². They're the usual choice for extending lamp leads, connecting fixtures and small appliances or making household extension leads.

Acrylic-sheathed cords

2x1 mm² cords in black and 2x1.5, 3x1.5 and 3x2.5 mm² in white, sold by the meter, for internal connections of appliances and fixtures.

Halogen-free cable

Reinforced single-core halogen-free cable by the meter, in cross-sections of 1.5 mm² (two-color, for earthing), 2.5 mm² (black), 4 mm² (two-color) and 6 mm² (gray). You'll also find it on 15-meter flexible drums in 1.5 mm² black and 2.5 mm² gray. This type of cable gives off less smoke and fewer toxic gases in a fire, which is why it's required in buildings open to the public.

Professional coils

  • Draka H07Z1-K (AS): flexible halogen-free cable in 200 m coils, in 1.5 mm² blue and black and 2.5 mm² gray.
  • General Cable RV-K 1 kV 2x1.5: 1 kV cable in a 100 m coil, suitable for power installations and protected outdoor runs.

Fixture connection cable

1.5 m, 0.75 mm² cable for linking T5 batten fittings together. Ideal for building continuous lines of T5 and T8 LED batten fittings.

Most common uses

  • Renovating or extending lighting and socket circuits.
  • Connecting LED fixtures, 220 V strips and decorative lamps.
  • Installations in shops, offices and warehouses where halogen-free cable is required.
  • Wiring switches and dimmers.

How to choose the right electrical cable

Cross-section

It depends on the circuit's load and length. As a rough guide for homes: 1.5 mm² for lighting, 2.5 mm² for general-purpose sockets, 4 mm² for a washing machine or water heater and 6 mm² for an oven or cooktop. Always check current regulations and consult a licensed electrician.

Colors

Blue for neutral; brown, black or gray for live; and green-yellow (two-color) for earth.

Single-core or sheathed cable

Single-core cable runs inside conduit or trunking; sheathed cable already has its conductors protected by an outer jacket and can be surface-run.

Halogen-free

Essential in public buildings and highly recommended in any new installation.
