The LED panels They are the most used products in the world of lighting. Above all, we can see it installed in offices, hospitals, etc. Its installation is carried out on the Armstrong type roof or office plot.
The installation of this type of panels is very simple since it is enough to remove the mold that comes on the ceiling and place it on the aluminum guides that form this type of ceiling. There are also different alternatives to be able to mount it on the surface if we have the typical plaster ceiling.
Installation of LED Panels
How is it possible to install an LED Panel?
LED panels can be installed in various ways, depending on the user's demands or the requirements imposed by the type of building or existing facilities on site..
In cases where the ceiling is very high, and you want to make more use of the light emitted by the panels, it is recommended to suspend them using a suspension kit (in some cases included and in others they can be obtained optionally)..
For installations where a surface installation is required, you can opt for a surface installation kit or a frame for surface installation, the selection of any of them will depend on the taste of each person and what is desired..
Finally, to install LED panels recessed in the ceiling, it can be done using the clips to recess the panels, thus ensuring that they are well fixed to the ceiling..
Can I regulate the intensity of an LED Panel?
With the introduction of LED technology in the world of lighting, new trends in decoration have been introduced such as intensity regulation. Most of the products we purchase are not dimmable, so we have to make a series of simple modifications so that we can dim the LED panels.
It is very common for LED panels to have a non-dimmable driver by default. What this does is that we cannot regulate the intensity of the lighting. If what we want is to be able to regulate the light intensity, what we will have to do is change the driver that comes by default with a dimmable one, which will allow us to regulate the lighting intensity.
This power supply is linked to the LED panel through a connector, therefore, the power supply (Driver) can be disconnected and connected whenever desired..
The panels come with their power supply (Driver) included, but this driver is not adjustable, since its electrical power input is designed to work with a current intensity and a voltage in alternating current with a constant value (usually 230V)..
Normally, adjustable drivers are sold as an additional accessory when purchasing the panel, then, when installing the product, the default driver is simply replaced with the adjustable driver obtained as an optional product..
Once the driver has been changed to a dimmable one, we now have a panel in which the light intensity can be regulated. But this is not enough to regulate the intensity. Therefore, what we need is a regulator (dimmer in English) that allows us to adjust the light intensity values we want.
Advantages of LED Panels
LED Panels have been a revolution in the world of lighting because they simplify the concept in their design, replacing the old fluorescent tubes with their housings with metal diffusers that gave us so many problems. The advantages of installing LED panels are the following.
New design: With the new design of this type of panels, both its installation and operation have been greatly simplified since it is basically place, connect and it would work. With this new format, the flow of light is uniform and well directed so we will not have spaces or dead angles. As for the finish, we can find it with a white or silver frame depending on the design that best suits our installation.
Start-up: It is so simple to connect that you just have to remove the old panel, take the driver that is supplied with the panel, connect to the power and it will automatically start up. You don't have anything else to do, it's so simple that anyone can do it. You don't have to have advanced knowledge in electricity. Obviously, we must always follow the assembly and safety regulations to carry out a correct assembly and to avoid any mishap.
Energy savings: With the change from fluorescent to LED, energy and monetary savings are guaranteed. In most cases, when we change from fluorescent panels to LED, the energy savings are around 80%. This is clearly one of the main advantages that make switching to LED one of the best decisions you can make.
Long useful life: With the change to LED we gain product durability, since the useful life of this type of panels is 30,000 hours, so we have guaranteed panels for many years. Furthermore, the maintenance of these panels is minimal since we do not have to change defective components. Furthermore, another inherent advantage of LEDs is their low heating, which increases or improves their useful life.
Environmentally friendly: This type of panels has the RoHS certificate so that no dangerous or environmentally harmful materials have been used in its manufacturing in accordance with European Union legislation.
What measurements do the LED Panels have?
One of the main advantages of LED panels is their versatility. As we have seen, they can be installed on office partitioned ceilings or on plaster ceilings. Another of its advantages is the different measurements and sizes that can be found. As always, the size changes depending on the power, with the standard and most popular size being 600 x 600 mm. Next, we are going to discuss the most common measurements that can be found within the world of lighting.
300x300mm
300x600mm
600x600mm
30x1200mm
60x1200mm
As we have indicated previously, as the measurements of the panels change, so does the power. For example, 600 x 600 mm panels usually have a power between 36W and 48W depending on the model. The 300 x 300 pans usually have a power of around 12W, while the 60 x 1200 mm pans are the most powerful with powers that vary between 70 and 80W of power.
As we have seen, panels can offer us a versatile and efficient solution for different rooms. They can be installed in a kitchen, in an office, or in a workshop.
How do we know how many panels we should install?
This seems to be the big question that all customers ask when faced with a new installation or when they want to make the change to LED. How many panels should we install?
Before making the recommendation, a series of concepts must be taken into account:
Ceiling height: This is usually between 2.5 – 2.7 m).
Amount of natural light we receive: Depending on the amount of natural light we receive, we will have to place more or fewer panels.
The color of the ceiling, walls and floor: A space in white or lighter colors reflects more than a dark color.
Therefore, taking these factors into account, the panel recommendations that are usually made are to place one LED panel for every 5 square meters. If our office has about 20 square meters we will have to place 4 LED panels to have an illuminance of 500 Lx.
This rule can help us know in advance the number of panels we need in our room. If we want to carry out a real and more approximate calculation, we will have to resort to calculation software in which a greater number of lighting parameters are taken into account.
Installation of LED Panels on the surface
For the installation of LED panels on the surface, there are three different alternatives that we will explain below.
The first of them is the installation with a surface frame. The first step is to place the four sides of the frame to see how we are going to screw them together. Later we will screw three sides of the panel so that we have a gap to insert the panel. Next we will screw the three sides to the ceiling. The next step is to slide the panel and close the last side by screwing it. In this way we now have the first assembly option finished.
The second option is using the surface installation clips. To do this, first we will screw the staples to the LED panel using the same screws that come with the panel. Later, with the clips already fixed to the panel, we will screw these to the ceiling so that the panel is fixed to the ceiling.
The third option is using the panel suspension accessories. To do this, we will remove the screws from the back of the panel and use this to fix the base of the kit. Once we have all the bases fixed, we have to screw the end of the corresponding cable and the other end to the large fastening thread that will go on the ceiling. Finally we fix the large thread that goes to the ceiling and screw the other end of the cable. The height of the panel can be easily adjusted to our needs.
