Installation frames

Installation frames for power outlets are the finishing touch that gives your sockets a clean, safe look. At GreenIce we help you choose the right frame to upgrade the sockets in your home or business with no building work and a professional result.

Types of frames for sockets and outlets

  • Single-gang frames: for a stand-alone socket, such as the one by the nightstand or in the entryway.
  • Two-, three- or multi-gang frames: group several sockets or combine sockets with data, TV or USB outlets in a single unit, common above kitchen countertops, at desks and behind the TV.
  • Horizontal or vertical frames: depending on how the flush-mounted back boxes are arranged in the wall.
  • Finishes: white is the most common and goes with any decor; many series also offer colored or metallic finishes.

Where are they used?

Whenever you install or replace a flush-mounted socket, you'll need a frame: it covers the back box, protects against accidental contact and leaves the wall neatly finished. They're also the easiest way to refresh the look of a home: swapping old frames and cover plates for new ones transforms the appearance of the whole installation.

How to choose an installation frame

Wiring device series

This is the most important criterion: the frame must belong to the same series and manufacturer as the socket. Frames from one series don't fit devices from another, even if they look similar.

Number of gangs

Count how many boxes you have in a row and their spacing. The distance between boxes must match that of the multi-gang frame.

Orientation

Check whether the boxes are arranged horizontally or vertically before ordering a multi-gang frame.

Use and environment

In damp areas or outdoors, a standard frame isn't enough: you'll need surface-mounted devices or ones with a cover and a suitable IP rating.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the frame without turning off the power?

For safety, always switch off the circuit before removing the cover plate and frame.

Does the same frame work for sockets and switches?

Yes, within the same series the frame is shared; only the device inside changes. Also check out our switches and dimmers section.
