Osram/Ledvance sodium vapor bulbs are high-pressure discharge lamps widely used in street lighting, industrial parks, warehouses and parking lots, recognizable by their characteristic orange light.   • 50 W E27 base: 3700 and 4200 lumen versions, for street lights and lower-wattage fixtures.

  • 250 W E40 base: 31,600 and 33,200 lumen versions for main streets, warehouses and large outdoor areas.
  • 400 W E40 base: 56,500 lumens, for large areas, floodlights and high mounting heights.

Uses of sodium vapor

For decades, high-pressure sodium was the standard technology for outdoor lighting thanks to its high efficacy and long life. Today it's still needed to maintain existing installations: municipalities, residential communities, industrial sites and maintenance contractors that need to replace burnt-out lamps without changing the fixture or the gear. Its yellowish light penetrates fog well and reduces blue light pollution, although it renders colors less accurately.

Wattage compatible with the gear

These lamps work with a ballast, ignitor and capacitor. You must choose exactly the same wattage that the fixture's gear is designed for.

Base

E27 for low wattages and E40 (Goliath screw) for 100 W or more. Check the lamp holder before buying.

Luminous flux

At the same wattage, some versions offer more lumens. Choose the higher-output version if you want more light without changing the installation.

Keep sodium or switch to LED?

If you'd rather upgrade, LED bulbs for street lights and LED street lighting reduce energy use and maintenance, although the installation needs to be reviewed.
